Activities

The Stoney Creek Environment Committee is a northeast Burnaby volunteer group dedicated to protecting, preserving, and enhancing Stoney Creek.

Our goals are to:

  • preserve Stoney Creek as a showcase urban salomn stream
  • ensure that the habitat and water quality will sustain the full life cycle of the salmon
  • raise public awareness of Stoney Creek and promote stream stewardship
  • provide opportunities for environmental education for school children in the outdoor classroom that is Stoney Creek
  • monitor stream heatlh with:
    • routine water testing
    • juvenile fish trapping
    • invertabrate counting
  • promote partnership among the many users of the Stoney Creek corridor: local, provincial, and federal agencies, an utility companies.

We achieve our goals by involving homeowners adjacent to Stoney Creek and other local residents with:

  • activities such as the Great Salmon Send-Off and BC Rivers Day
  • posters, brochures, newsletters, educational displays, and guided walks
  • opportunities for all to participate in our monitoring and enhancement projects
