Help eradicate the 'invasive' plants that have taken over the creek

invasiveplantStoney Creek is a viable salmon bearing urban creek near Lougheed Mall in Burnaby that needs your help!

Stoney Creek Environment Committee was formed in 1995 and is interested in community based participation in enhancing, preserving and restoring riparian areas along Stoney Creek.

Join the Invasive Plant Working Group every week (weekday TBD) from May to October and the last Saturday of every month at:

The main invasive species that threaten the balance of the riparian areas along the banks of Stoney Creek are:

  • English Ivy (Hedera Helix)
  • Himalayan Blackberry (Rubus discolor)
  • Japanese knotweed (Polygonum spp. - Fallopia japonica)
  • Yellow Lamium (Lamiastrum galeobdolon)
  • Periwinkle (Vinca minor) and
  • Policeman’s Helmut (Impatiens glandulifera)

The Invasive Plant Working Group is interested in educating the public, encouraging community voluntary work, and working in partnership with local, regional and national governmental agencies, along with private utilities in maintaining and enhancing our local ecosystem.

Come join us and help preserve our local ecosystem for today and future generations!
